With 18 ponds, this facility hatches and grows largemouth bass and bluegill to stock in Iowa lakes. Walleye are raised for sticking Iowa’s interior rivers.
The hatchery was established in 1908 and started out as a freshwater mussel research and propagation station to contribute to the local pearl button industry. It became a fish hatchery in 1929. Visitors are always welcome and group tours can be arranged.
